Petrovietnam plans 2nd Nam Con Son gas pipeline

HANOI, Oct 7 — State oil monopoly Petrovietnam has asked the government for permission to build a second natural gas pipeline in the country’s Nam Con Son Basin, state media reported today.

The pipeline would take natural gas from two blocks, 05.1 and 05.2, to feed power plants in Phu My in the southern oil and gas hub province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the Dau Tu newspaper quoted Petrovietnam Chief Executive Phung Dinh Thuc as saying.

Nam Con Son Basin’s first pipeline, built by BP at a cost of US$1.3 billion (RM4.46 billion), now supplies about 4 billion cubic metres of gas annually to meet 32 per cent of Vietnam’s power generation. — Reuters
