Bursa ends first day of Nov trade down

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed easier today as market players took cue from a weaker Wall Street last Friday, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) declined 1.47 points, or 0.118 per cent, to close at 1,241.76, dragged down by Genting, RHB Capital, AMMB Holdings and Sime Darby. The FBM KLCI had opened 5.06 points lower at 1,238.17.

Genting fell nine sen to RM7.15, RHB Capital declined 14 sen to RM5.25, AMMB Holdings decreased nine sen to RM4.64 and Sime Darby lost four sen to RM8.85.

Despite the current downtrend, a dealer said the upcoming listing of Maxis is likely to provide the much need catalyst for the local bourse.

“It will not only attract local investors but also international as investors are hunting for good shares,” he said.

TA Securities in a research note today said the upcoming listing of Maxis on November 19 is another index catalyst although the Initial Public Offering (IPO) appears pricey as market is likely to attach a premium to this quality stock.

It said corporate results reporting season will enter its final leg in November and could act as a strong support for any immediate term correction as earnings are expected to be better on quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis.

The FBM Emas Index declined 14.851 points to 8,321.88, FBM Top 100 fell 15.65 points to 8,115.03, FBM 70 was 39.49 points lower at 8,110.39 and the FBM ACE Index lost 5.55 points to 4,300.14.

The Finance Index decreased 8.38 points to 10,526.79, the Industrial Index eased 1.43 points to 2,666.52 and the Plantation Index slipped 16.22 points to 6,071.86.

Losers led gainers by 411 to 242 while 212 counters were unchanged and 408 untraded.

Turnover rose to 1.074 billion shares valued at RM1.142 billion from last Friday’s 999.004 million shares worth RM1.325 billion.

Leading the actives was Talam Corp, which rose 2.5 sen to 11.5 sen followed by Time Engineering which increased 11 sen to 50.5 sen while Time DotCom gained three sen to 44 sen.

Among heavyweights, Maybank advanced three sen to RM6.70, CIMB gained four sen to RM12.52, Tenaga closed unchanged at RM8.41 and IOI Corp fell two sen to RM5.34.

The Main Market turnover rose to 960.744 million shares valued at RM1.106 billion from 840.95 million shares worth RM1.277 billion last Friday.

The ACE Market volume surged to 76.59 million shares worth RM22.331 million from 71.88 million shares valued at RM13.257 million last Friday.

However, warrants eased to 21.094 million units valued at RM3.772 million from 33.519 million units worth RM5.385 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 39.048 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 177.308 million, construction 45.737 million, trade and services 233.282 million, technology 141.623 million, infrastructure 69.545 million, finance 38.163 million, hotels 363,400, properties 200.754 million, plantations 13.098 million, mining 11,000, REITs 1.785 million and closed/fund  27,400. — Bernama
