KL Shares close mixed, CI up 0.56 points

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed mixed today in the absence of market moving news, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) added 0.56 points to close at 1,242.32, after opening 0.15 of a point lower at 1,241.61.

However, a dealer said that follow-through buying interest was seen in selected bluechips like Maybank, Hong Leong Bank and CIMB, which helped the key index end higher.

He said it was also supported by the overnight gains on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 76.71 points to 9,789.44 while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index climbed 6.69 points to 1,042.88.

The FBM Emas Index declined 2.979 points to 8,318.9, the FBM Top 100 rose 0.36 of a point to 8,115.39 while the FBM 70 was 12.73 points lower at 8,097.66 and the FBM ACE Index added 42.31 points to 4,342.45.

The Finance Index increased 28.47 points to 10,555.26 and the Industrial Index gained 1.86 points to 2,668.38 but the Plantation Index slipped 6.9 points to 6,064.96.

Losers led gainers by 389 to 261 while 242 counters were unchanged and 380 others untraded.

Turnover rose to 1.296 billion shares worth RM1.343 billion from yesterday’s 1.074 billion shares valued at RM1.142 billion.

Leading the actives was Time Engineering which fell six sen to 44.5 sen, followed by Compugates, which rose half sen to seven sen while Green Packet-Warrant increased 10.5 sen to 83 sen.

Among the heavyweights, Sime Darby and Maybank rose two sen each to RM8.87 and RM6.72 respectively, while CIMB increased four sen to RM12.56 and Tenaga fell one sen to RM8.40.

The Main Market turnover rose to 1.090 billion shares worth RM1.29 billion from yesterday’s 960.744 million shares valued at RM1.106 billion.

The ACE Market volume surged to 151.392 million shares valued at RM27.351 million from 76.59 million shares worth RM22.331 million yesterday.

However, warrants eased to 19.682 million units worth RM4.049 million from the 21.094 million units valued at RM3.772 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 45.950 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 232.722 million, construction 45.587 million, trade and services 391.691 million, technology 160.715 million, infrastructure 40.216 million, finance 45.459 million, hotels 2.934 million, properties 111.174 million, plantations 11.502 million, mining 22,000, REITs 2.236 million and closed/fund 49,200. — Bernama
