KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 - The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, was discharged yesterday from the Stanford University Medical Centre in Palo Alto, California, United States, after undergoing heart surgery on May 2.
The sultan's private aide, Kelvin Ong, said in a statement that according to Datuk Dr Anuar Masduki, Sultan Sharafuddin, 63, "has made an uneventful recovery and is ambulating well".
Dr Anuar, who is the sultan's personal physician, also said that Sultan Sharafuddin would undergo cardiac rehabilitation under the supervision of Stanford University Medical Centre Director of TLC services, Nancy Houston Miller, prior to his return to Malaysia.
According to Ong, there would be a follow-up consultation with Dr Craig Miller, who was Sultan Sharafuddin's cardiac surgeon, within the week.
Sultan Sharafuddin left for California from Singapore on April 29, accompanied by his younger brother, Tengku Indera Setia Selangor Tengku Ahmad Shah, Comptroller of the Selangor royal household Datuk Zakaria Abd Rahman, Selangor Royal Council member Tan Sri Syed Mohd Yusof Tun Syed Nasir, Dr Anuar and Ong. - Bernama
