PUTRAJAYA, May 20 — No action will be taken against former Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee P. Uthayakumar for failing to appear before an ISA advisory panel meeting at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping yesterday, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said that he was informed that Uthayakumar’s presence before the panel was not a condition for his release (from ISA detention).
“The advisory panel calling former detainees to appear before it is not to evaluate their level of rehabilitation. If he (Uthayakumar) did not attend, this will be entered into the panel’s report but it does not violate any conditions whereby action can be taken,” he told reporters after chairing his ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting here today.
Hishammuddin was asked to comment on the action by the leader of the outlawed the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) in not attending the meeting scheduled for 10.30am yesterday despite four other Hindraf leaders, who were also released from ISA detention, doing so.
Asked about Uthayakumar’s refusal to sign for the conditions of his release from ISA detention, he said: “The fact he did not sign it is not against the law, and it will not affect the release.”
Hishammuddin, however, said he viewed seriously the statements being made by Uthayakumar concerning street demonstrations and his accusations and threats against the government, particularly the ministry.
“We will not compromise on this matter and if laws are broken, we will take the appropriate action,” he said.
On the review of several laws that came under the ministry, Hishammuddin said besides getting the feedback of experts, he would also be going to the ground to get the views of the public.
“All preventive detentions, those involving assemblies and issues regarding free speech will be reviewed, and most probably will be more lenient,” he said.
Asked on police action in clamping down on gatherings, including small ones and candlelight vigils, and claims that their action has made wearing black an offence, Hishammuddin said:”It is not as simple as the way it is being painted.”
“That’s how it has been made to look at but there are many things which the public, including those involved (in gatherings), do not know or realise. Just wearing black of course is not an offence. Don’t think I’m too naive to say we are going to imprison everybody who wears black.
“But there is more to it than that. And if they want to sue me and the Inspector-General of Police for that, both of us are willing to go to court and explain whatever actions that have been taken,” he said. – Bernama

My thoughts: He does not have to go around to get views. The Rakyat already giving feedback. He is not listening, in denial. Now, proactively, he can read the Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini to get our feedback and views.

"And if they want to sue me and the Inspector-General of Police for that, both of us are willing to go to court and explain whatever actions that have been taken".
My thoughts: Don't we all know how prompt is the court system, with exceptions to UMNO initiated cases. Hisham, you don't have to wait to be 'dragged' to court. Please answer plainly what the cops are trying to prove by the high-handness.
Remember, the Rakyat not stupid anymore. We await.

Your very statement is a contradiction in and of itself. Malaysians of all races are and have been routinely detained because they are innocent and because you are unable to successfully prosecute them because of lack of evidence that you detain them under your egregious ISA Detantio Orders. People of Malaysia protest the retention of the ISA and for al of these 52 years, the ISA has been routinely ABUSED and innocent lives have been destroyed.
I say to Kris Muddin that the reason why Uthayakuma is not detained and Kris Muddin says so as much is because the supporters of Uthayakuma are ready to create havoc in the streets and the open defiance of Uthayakuma is a gamble thta UMNO is not ready to risk.
There is a lesson to be learned from Kris Muddin's response and it is this, that UMNO has come to realise that the days of beating the opposition is today counter productive and also within this context let me make this observation "THAT COME THE TRIAL OF DSAI ON A TRUMPED UP CHARGE OF SODOMY THE JUDGE WILL NOT THIS TIME ACT WITH IMPUNITY BECAUSE IF DSAI IS CONVICTED HE WILL RESIGN HIS PARLIAMENTRY SEAT AND ANOTHER BY ELECTION WILL BE CALLED AND UMNO WILL BE DEALT ANOTHER DEFEAT OVERWHELMINGLY. UMNO is already "GUN SHY" ,the first sign of certain defeat. It is my take that the next general election will be won by Pakatan Rakyat and I hope and pray that the incoming government of the Pakatan Rakyat will enforce the law and to remove according to law al those errant judges who have committed crimes by their refusal to enforce the law and for openly abuse the laws.
I wanted to report the actions of a certain judge of the Court of Appeal who had aided and abetted perjury & forgery, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and for obstructing police investigation, BUT I DECIDED NOT TO DO SO BECAUSE I RISK DETENTION UNDER THE ISA IF I WENT TO KL. It will be futile for me to try to have this judge prosecuted because the ATORNEY GENERAL IS HIMSELF BEEN ACCUSED OF UNSAVOURY PRACTICES. This will only give cause for the A-G to dismiss my complant. I believe that Pakatan Rakyat will win and a new A-G take his place and that is when I will go to KL.
My brothers and sisters in Malaysia you must bear in mind that this coming GE will be your last because UMNO will loose this election and they will not surrender power so readily. My take is UMNO will do what they did in 1969; declare martial law and focible take power. It is the duty of every Malaysian to vote Pakatan Rakyat even if you anticipate an UMNO grab for power. This caution is not too far fetched because UMNO has already put this eventuality into place and this is also the analysis of the British Economist.com. The conomist.com expects such an eventuallity to take place. However it is the duty of all Malaysians to act democratically and to vote UMNO out of government and then worry about what they will do.
The present situation makes it impossible for UMNO to win; the remaining question is how Pakatan Rakyat will be able to ENFORCE THEIR DEMOCRATIC VICTORY ! Will UMNO graceously hand ove power to Pakatan Rakyat ? I think this is going to be the real question. It is not if Pakatan Rakyat wins but when Pakatan Rakyat wins how will they transition into power ?

No Hishamuddin, you are either blind or outright dishonest. You missed the point completely. The point is PDRM will not arrest BN goons who BLATANTLY break the law while arresting peaceful candel lignt vigils and arresting lawyers who are doing their duties.

Who are you trying to Hoodwink, you are being naive to think you can still bluff
your way out of this mess. I have seen the videos posted on the Youtube, your Police Officers are
too happy to flout their authority, its indeed shocking to see them behaving more like Triads Leader.
These Officers should be reprimanded for their Rude behaviours, they do not possess the aptitude
required of an Officer with authority. They do not talk like a civilized person, instead they resort yelling
and shouting even though the other parties are composed and calm in trying to engage him. Pray tell
me, do they think that they are above the Law when carrying out their Duties ? Maybe they are trying
to emulate your style by waving their Handcuffs at every opportunity they get as far as the Opposition
Parties are concern. Please do not forget as in life, Change of Events and Faith can always happen when you least expect and you could find yourself facing the other end of the Table. All those Offending
Police Officers should be sent for Anger Management course failing which a Desk job would be more
suited for them.
Wearing Black is now an Offence in Malaysia, Oh ! Come on Home Minister, please don't behave like a
spoilt Child who can't have his ways. I thought this could only happen during Mao's era in China, how
spoilt can you get ?

It is wrong for Hindraf to voice their issues based on race. The Indians should have demonstrated infront of Samy Vellu's house first rather than going to the streets. It is all the fault of Samy Vellu that the country is faced with a racist Hindraf. The Indian community should put their weight on Samy Vellu and not be led astray by Hindraf. Samy Vellu is living comfortably at the expense of the Indian community, and the Indian community is taking revenge against all Malaysian! This is ridiculous.
Unfortunately, the emotional young Malaysians seem to overlook the implication behind their blind support of Hindraf. These naive young people are short-sighted. What will stop other people from going to the streets? Do you want to see chaos in Malaysia?
Although I understand their frustrations, Hindraf cannot put the peace and stability of Malaysia in their hands. Thus the preventive action under ISA was justified. But the government must also rectify their mistakes, not only Hindraf. To stop this racist nonsense, other Hindraf leaders must also be put under ISA.
