KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — A serious rift has developed in PAS after spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat told the party No. 2 Nasharuddin Mat Isa to quit and join Umno if he persisted in having unity talks with the Barisan Nasional (BN) party.
In an unprecedented outburst, the Kelantan mentri besar put the blame for the unity talks controversy squarely on the shoulders of the newly-elected party deputy president.
His remarks came just after PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali pledged the party’s commitment to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Mustafa said this morning that PAS would only have talks to form a unity government if the negotiations included its PR partners, in a statement designed to assuage the growing sense of betrayal being felt by DAP and PKR.
Umno leaders have in recent weeks aggressively pushed the idea of opening talks with PAS, and this has driven a rift between the PR partners and put the federal opposition alliance on the back-foot for the first time since last year’s general election.
Nik Aziz’s outburst today appears to suggest that PAS, long considered the most united and well-organised party in the PR alliance, is now severely split over the issue of talks with Umno.
“The issue of a unity government did not come from PAS but was an idea privately pushed. This matter was never discussed in any paper as part of PAS’s agenda or that of the opposition alliance.
“If it is true that Nasharuddin agrees with a unity government it is better that he joins Umno, resigns as the deputy and as Bachok MP,” Nik Aziz told reporters in Kota Baru after the Kelantan state executive council meeting today.
The spiritual leader’s comments are likely to send shockwaves throughout the party, and signal his refusal to back down from total commitment to PR.
While Nik Aziz remains a staunch conservative, he has given his backing to the so-called Erdogan faction in PAS which consists of professionals and more progressive leaders who support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s position as leader of the opposition and potential prime minister in a PR federal government.
But many of the more prominent Erdogan faction leaders like Husam Musa were defeated in the recent party elections in which conservatives, who stand behind PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, emerged victorious.
Nasharuddin had been at the forefront of secret talks last year between Umno and PAS soon after the general election.
But those talks did not result in any pact with the BN, and PAS decided instead to commit itself to PR.
But Nasharuddin and Hadi have grown weary of Anwar’s prominence and are concerned that PAS may be sidelined in a PR government led by the former deputy prime minister.
Umno has taken full advantage of the turn of events.
Yesterday, Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he could sense that the Islamist party was “sincere” in forming a unity government.

With his current position in PAS, he can get at least a Vice President in UMNO and
many government post and rewards awaiting for him.

PAS should expel this kind of person who has actually betrayed both PAS and the PR. PAS has other leaders who has more credibility. Nasharudin is just a stooge and an errand boy. He can't be forgiven easily.

Any back door negotiations to power will result in total destruction.
The real traitors have been exposed before they can make a move.
Well said Tok Guru!........be strong on principles......that is the very foundation the rakyat stands beside you.

minister perhaps DPM should he we able to assemble a large no of MPs to cross over. Moo hee din may have
to vacate . Nas is a politician we should wish him luck in UMNO. The sad thing is this man is a religious leader as a Muslim myself I am totally disbelieve that he will like to join up with a corrupted party UMNO Can he change UMNO to be clean or he will be part of the corrupt empire. I can see from his twist of words and he is very aggressive to defend the UNITY government who knows he has taken RM$$$$ or a trap set up by UMNO.

MI, of course, spun a piece four months ago about the outstanding qualities and suaveness of Nasarudin - to great avail, it now seems. But Tok Guru will stand firm and send Nasarudin, the UMNO mole, back to where he came from.

Except for those who continue to lick UMNO leaders hands - incl the subservient MCA/Gerakan/MIC/PPP/MSM etc etc - UMNO/BN regime is clearly so despised.
A PM who has the lowest rating ever - even for a new national leader. BN components fraught with scandals (PKFZ, MAIKA, money politics, murder) to in-fighting, even 79% of MCA's own want them to leave the coalition. And what does One Ta- Kut do?
Live up to his name. Cabut to France, instead of facing P'ment.
l say, all these are clear ingredients for self - annihaliation.
Go ahead NAsh, Hadi, Mustafa - keep up your mengurat session with UMNO.
Nobody's gonna either remember or pity you guys when UMNO/BN falls.
That's how bad it is

I believe what we are seeing now is political psychology being used by UMNO/BN to win memberships and to cause rifts. If UMNO & PAS are sincere, they shouldn't think of having a unity talk. They're like water and oil.

That's the way. No point of keeping these two devils ravaging the party. They are Trojan Horses of UMNO. Kick them out before they do further damage to the party, even at the risk of spliting PAS into two.
written by Matureman07, June 17, 2009
Since Nasharuddin Mat Isa like to talk and work with Umno, he might as well quit from PAS and join Umno. In this way, he could continue to talk with them privately as long as he wish. Nobody care.
If the PAS' President is not happy with Tok Nik Aziz statement, he too can join Nasharuddin to join Umno.

Hadi Awang mismanage Terengganu and lost it. It seemed that his lack of leadership capability is now translated to PAS's turmoil. See how glad UMNO is.. that they have succeeded. It is strange that PAS cannot handle success.

What is the unity pack for? Just wait for the next GE and have the PR government install. That if you only have the trust in the coalition and faith into it. You cant wait? After 50 yrs and some bad experience during coalition with BN before? Never learn a lesson?
Just concentrate to have a unity pack with the PR coalition and prepared to rule the country together with other PR members. Forget about BN or UMNO its history. Why so "hadap" to have this pack with them?
And now BN controled media is happily playing over and over again the issues so PAS will break up internally. No 1 & No . 2 of PAS cannot think meh?
Kelantan can survive without so much of help from BN govt and NO.1 PAS want to cooperate? Remember Terenganu last time? What happend?
Just concentrate to tighten the loosen end in PR itself instead to help the sinking ship.

It's a big mistake, damn big mistake if PAS join this so-called unity government. Did UMNO care for PAS when they were at their prime? No.. Now, when they are down to their knees, all these crap "unity" stuffs cropped in. I strongly agree with TGNA that Nasha shld quit - go ahead & join UMNO.. PAS wld be the big loser if they continue this "harakiri" idea..
To Nasha : You betray us. You betray the poeple of Tumpat.

The voice of wisdom have spoken!
PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz has never shifted his position in the three parties alliance, he has never doubted, that with PR two other partners PKR and DAP, PAS will rise to higher heights in the malaysian political arena... getting involved with that dodgy UMNO will see PAS get screwed the second time and the splitting of the party into two. It appears, PAS have not much of a choice but, to stay put with the Alliance....and, not be clouded with small successes in the last GE...hopefully, they they not break the trust of the non-malays placed on them!

Those who wants unity should UNIFY themselves with UMNO by just joining as UMNO member instead !
Nasha ought to be shamed outrightly and if those who looked closely at the 3 way fight between Nasha-Husam-Mat Sabu ought to know very well that the votes of Husam+Mat Sabu far outweight Nasha.
They voted Nasha so as not to shamed him.
But guessed what? Nasha openly rebuked Nik Aziz whom is the Spiritual Leader of PAS saying that his view is personal to himself !

Us. Nasaruddin boleh pergi bersama UMNO jika beriya sangat dengan Melayu nya. Tapi ingat apakah nasib yang diterima Us.

the drama unfolding in front of our eyes.
Pas and Umno - unity talks leading towards unity government.
Hadi Awang first proposed to Pah Lah after March 8 general election.
Then the media picked it up and drum up the unity talks.
Najib responded and says he is open for more discussion.
Already discussion was on the way,
Then the expose - the media leaks.
Nik Aziz was furiously mad - this is understandable.
Umno had dealt falsely with this Tok Guru in the past...
Umno was the evil party, clearly untrustworthy by Tok Guru's estimate.
Hadi should know better,
Himself was played out many times by Umno in Terengganu.
Hadi got his deputy to press further for unity talks,
These two - outside Pas - went on their own,
They boldly used Pas as the platform to discuss and negotiate -
they used religion and race as a front - something else was cooking.
Ahhh, Mustafa Pas secretary general says that for unity talks - PKR and DAP must be included.
Another Ahhhh, Muhkriz says no to the larger invitations.
Nik Aziz did right -
Pas on wrong footing - No. 1 and 2 - Pas president and deputy - inside dealing with Umno.
Have they kissed Tok Guru with a kiss of betrayal?
Have they betrayed the public, knowingly Umno is public no. 1 enemy?
Usually, in any party - there is only one traitor.
In PR, two traitors - ????
Muhkriz is spilling the beans!!!!
Thank you Muhkriz, you have shown us who are the traitors.
Pas will deal with them.
But first, handle the deputy.
Nasha - if you want to talk unity with Muhkriz, just crossover to Umno.

I think in essence the agenda of malaysia malaysia espoused by PR and alternative media may have been pushed too far right, hard and fast. Muslims are questioning that with PAS in PR, PAS will have its hands tied up by the PR. They see that the voice of the islam as championed by PAS all the while will be suppressed. Already a number of issues cannot be raised as it affects the interests of the PR coalition. With PAS being stifled, UMNO would no longer need to play the one up game as had happened in the past. If both PAS and UMNO are playing the malaysia malaysia game, who is then to champion the islamic cause? This is a concern of muslims.
Now to top it off, any move against the malaysia malaysia agenda is deemed as "racist" "backward" "stupid" etc. These vitriolic rhetorics have put the muslims under sieged. Any talk between PAS and UMNO based on islamic concerns are condemned as outright betrayal and racists. These again pushed the malays/ muslims into the corner.
The muslims is also realising that the fight for malaysia malaysia is shallow. The rhethorics on malaysian malaysia demands non discriminatory practice by all. In essence these are not objectionable but it requires a lot of give and take by everybody. But when they see that the non-malays are not willing to give up the chinese or tamil schools in order to preserve their culture despite knowing full well that if the kids are separated from young it would be impossible to have a non racially inclined malaysians, the muslims see that the call for non-discriminatory practices seem shallow. The muslims will also realise that the non-malay businesses will in all probability object to a non discriminatory practices in their business dealings and severely object to the dismantling of their clan and racially based business network. The muslims will realise that certain businesses will only be inked between those of similar language, background and finally race. Worse, they will realise that to those who advocate malaysian malaysia agenda, they will never consider those who support these current race based school policies and trade practices as racists. Where is the consistency? Isn't then the Malaysian malaysia just a rhetoric?
The more the push is made by the advocates of malaysian malaysia, the more the muslims feel that they are under seiged. Everybody must take a step back including MI. We should not play too extreme politics in pursuing our agenda. We should meet in the midlle. Otherwise our country will irrevocably be split and in perpetual uncertainty.

PAS will gain even more voting supporters.
written by Robert, June 17, 2009
It seems like the Hadi faction in PAS is disguised as moderate but inside they are really like UMNO and that will be too bad. You just can't fool the rakyat, they are a lot smarter now and can decipher what is going on by not having to rely on what is said. We are interested in a just government and that is why PAS,DAP,and PKR were voted in and we'll not hesitate to vote PAS out in a heartbeat if this nonsense about unity crap did not stop.
BN is suppose to be a unity government with MCA and MCI and buch of others but there is unity as long as everyone ok every damn thing UMNO wants and this will apply to PAS as well.
