UPDATED
PETALING JAYA, July 18 — Former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng, who lost two bids for the party's top post, confirmed his worst-kept secret and officially joined Parti KeAdilan Rakyat (PKR) today in a boost for the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that has been wracked by differences between its three allies.
It is understood the former health minister had submitted his forms earlier and today’s announcement at a PKR forum was a formality, party sources said.
Former MCA Senator Datuk David Yeoh and former Lumut MP Datuk Yap Yit Thong also announced they were joining PKR to applause from the 1,000 members at the forum in Bandar Sunway here.
Chua and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were earlier enthusiastically greeted with loud cheers when they turned up at 3.30pm for the “The Truth Behind the Scandals: Perak, PKFZ and the BN Conspiracy” forum held at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.
The party members also strung up a banner that said “Congratulations to Chua for joining PKR”.
“I am resigning as a member of MCA and with the permission of PKR's de facto leader, I'm announcing that I'm joining PKR," Chua said as the crowd shouted “Reformasi”.
“I'm convinced that today I'm standing on the right side of history, especially at this defining moment of history, I'm joining this party.”
The 64-year-old lawyer quit as Bakri MCA division chief two days ago, after leading the division for the past 23 years. He ran for the MCA president’s post twice but lost to Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting in 2005 and Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat last year.
But he told his division he would stick with MCA and was giving up his post to allow fresh blood, asking them to give their undivided support to Tee Keat as party president.
At a press conference later, Chua said he was misquoted by the press. "I did not deny nor did I confirm," he said.
The MCA did not pick Chua to defend the Bakri parliamentary seat in Election 2008, leading to its loss to DAP's Er Teck Hwa and making it the sole opposition seat in Johor.
His defection is the latest sign of fractious politics in the MCA as deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek was recently issued a notice to appear before the party disciplinary board over his 2007 DVD sex scandal.
Chua also said MCA was destined to doom if it continues to be a mono-race party and this, he said, became one of the many reasons for leaving a party he has served since 1976.
"I noticed that I and Anwar share the same ideals. I believe in the two-party system and this is under heavy attack by the Umno-led government. This precipitated my decision to join them," he said further.
Chua also said that the sudden death of a PR political aide, Teoh Beng Hock, became the tipping point in his decision to join PKR, saying the incident, among others, prompted him to join in PR's fight in reforming the country.
MCA, he said, was no longer able to make the changes desired by the people as long as it bows down to what he calls the bullish leadership of BN's masters Umno.
Veteran Barisan Nasional leaders who have recently defected to PKR include former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, MCA’s former deputy Wanita leader Dr Tan Yew Kew and former Gerakan veep Dr Tan Tee Kwong.
Anwar said Chua will definitely have a prominent post and role to play in the party. It will be decided once the party supreme council convenes.

Early of the year, Nasa joint PKR Perak and those PR people were happy but a few days later, PR perak collapsed.

Somehow, He hasn't done anything for me to jump up and down with joy. The MCA, although weakened, still has very powerful and cunning people inside.
For me personally, I'd be very careful because he had tried for the top post, twice and failed for the MCA top post. He has ambitions, all politicians do.
First, he must state his agenda and his goals. His differences within MCA is not a good reason enough for me because it holds no long term commitment and benefits to the rakyat who really want CHANGE.

We do not want to destroy MCA but we must all work very hard by the next General Election to BRING THE WHOLE OF MCA INTO THE pAKATAN rAKYAT CAMP. There is still lots of time and we must hope that MCA as a party will jump into Pakatan

PKR keeps on accepting and welcoming and wooing former BN politicians.
So how is PKR different from the current BN?
Yes, it would seem so: However, if the head is clean all the other ma-cha's will have to be clean. I would place my bet on PR

The operative word here is 'Former' Dr. Pang. PR may have wanted to get the BN MPs to defect in order to topple the BN government but it did not happen. This is a FACT. Would PR have done so if they could? No one knows. BN have actually used the tools of government to and bribes to topple the PR government in Perak. They were trying to do the same in Selangor until God made a mess of their plans.
Is PR completely clean? No, PR has its share of corrupt politicians but many more are honest. That is why Mr Teoh had to die. That's why Kelantan has no scandals after 20 years of PAS rule.
]There is a big difference between saying you want to kill someone and actually killing someone. This is a universal principle found in the legal codes of all civilized societies around the world. Please bear this in mind doctor.
The BN and PR are two completely different animals.

Tengku Razaleigh, when will you join PKR or DAP? Pakatan is waiting for u. Bring along a few good malay leaders with you too. We want to see a truely multiracial PKR and DAP. Eventually, PKR and DAP may merge.
It would be good if they can do so before the next general election which is for Pakatan to lose.
So what about PAS....you certainly hate Islamic party base.....If PAS out of PR, 90% Malay will follow...just see

So how is PKR different from the current BN? //
the difference is PKR is multi-racial and UMNO or MCA are racial based, PKR should not simply accept former leaders of BN and must be screened and confirmed clean and sincere to serve rather than pocket all rakyat monies.
Really hope PR can sit down and talk and don't wash dirty linen in public, talk things out and standardise the policies for the benefits of our multi-racial rakyat.

The death of Teoh Beng Hock is the tipping point for many people. I am happy to see that it had helped Chua Jui Meng to move over to PKR. I hope it has impact of BN, especially MCA. UMNO has become a monster spewing evil everywhere. I hope you will reflect on where the country is going. You know very well it is going nowhere. Do you still want to take MCA and the country to hell with the way things are going.
I hope this is a tipping point for you, too.

We used to 'boo" Zaid too when he was with umno.
And now , which one of us here do not want Zaid to be with PKR?
Let Jui Meng settle down first and see what he can offer to help the country , PR and PKR.
Of course PKR was bitten once by the umno trojan from Perak.
None of us wanted that to happen but shit did happen.
Chua, Yap and Yeoh , welcome to PKR .
