PENANG, Sept 4 — The Kampung Buah Pala saga looks headed for an amicable settlement as 22 house owners agreed to accept an offer from the developer, Nusmetro Ventures (P) Sdn Bhd.
Nusmetro Director Thomas Chan said a meeting was held with Kampung Buah Pala residents yesterday and that they had agreed to accept an offer made by them (developer).
“During the meeting, 22 house owners singed letters of offer by the developer and agreed to shift peacefully,” he told reporters here today.
Chan said they were offered a double-storey house and RM8,000 as expenses for shifting. “We will start demolition works next week and carry on with the development as soon as possible. However, we will still give them time on compassionate grounds,” he said.
Yesterday, Kampung Buah Pala Residents Association chairperson M. Sugumaran had said that they had no choice but to abide by the court’s decision to vacate the land.
He added that all the residents were disappointed with the situation but had to accept the offer from the developer.
On June 24, the Court had ordered the residents to evacuate the village, covering some 2.6 hectares, and allow the landowner, Penang Government Officers Cooperative and the developer, to start work on the site. — Bernama

The Kg Buah Pala residents should be thankful and consider themselves lucky that LGE is the CM of Penang right now. One, had it been someone else they will most likely get nothing but would have been chased out of the land with their homes razed, like what had happened in most other states. Two, despite insulting and bad-mouthing him at every opportunity (by issuing threats and calling him all sorts of names) LGE did not seem totake offense but still persisted in getting as best a deal for the Buah Pala folks. His grace and forebearance is greatly admired for if I were him, it will be nothing doing from the day these guys treated me in that offensive way . Thank yr lucky stars KBP folks. U were lucky in many,many ways.

All this huhah would have been resolve in a peaceful manner had they heeded the deal brokered by PR government under LGE. Where in Malaysia has a squatter got a double storey house worth RM500K just to vacate from a land which was never his in the first place. With a court order in hand, the developer can just bulldozed throu the land. But instead, the developer was still generous enough to give them a house with RM8K moving cost. How unlucky I am. I should have squatted in Kg Buah Pala too so I can become a 1/2 millionaire. So to Sugumaran and your gang just thank PR governement for your windfall otherwise your all will be label as ingrates by Penangites.

Despite how rude they were and how they denounced the CM, but CM never put it to heart and still willing to ask the developer to give each a 500K house on top of 8k relocation expenses, absolutely no lust for vengeance. Besides the 24 houses, another 12 will be built for non-trouble maker Indians.
Washing hands is the coolest strategy by Penang CM. I see leadership quality in him. The wise CM says if you don't play hindraf, MIC and Umno's cards, the good is just next to you. Race, politics, reilgion and cultural heritage are all bushits, we need somebody who is humble, more down to earth and with old fashion hair cut. Compared with Samy, Toyo, Muhyiddin and any Hindraf guy, tell me whether they are really helping you people or just touting for their own benefit. Yes, i agree, the KBP residents should thank their lucky stars for geting a double storey house . They could have got 'nothing' if the developer stuck by the court decision that the land now belongs to the koperasi. Previously, i was felt sad for them as their ancestral land was taken from them, with the blessing of the courts. But now I feel happy for them as they have now accepted the compensation of a double storey house. Well done Lim Guan Eng.

Sugumaran, why don't you just telling the truth? MIC don't keep their promise after you guys let the developer demolished 3 houses + 1 room from your area? Sure MIC is disappointed because they dont have the $$$ they promised you earlier. They're just using you as a tool against the current state government. Remember this, and tell your children and your children's children that it is the BN govt led by Koh Tsu Koon that acquired and sold the land cheaply to the developer. Where was MIC then? Until MIC returns all the money due to all Indians from the Telekom shares and Maika scandals, trust them at your own peril. I can only hope that the Indian community will learn from all these.

You think the developer so generous and gracious ar? The developer is in agreeable mood because LGE still holds an ace or two up his sleeves by withholding/delaying state approvals. So this Thomas Chan agreed to quickly speed up the demolition and makes him look good. Remember to thank LGE and vote for PR in GE13.
Where is Muhi hiding? His promise to Sugu to look into this issue also lost together with the PP by-election.

At last, good sense prevail. Noone has right to occupy somebody's land and later seek compensation. The residents are getting the best in Malaysia.
