KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Malaysian and Thai young leaders have agreed to work together in the troubled southern Thai region in education initiatives and capacity building.
This was agreed upon during a meeting between an Umno Youth delegation led by its head, Khairy Jamaluddin, and Thailand's young parliamentarians (MPs) from the ruling Democrat Party in Bangkok yesterday.
The MPs agreed to Khairy's proposal for cooperation among the younger leaders of both countries to work together in the troubled southern Thai region.
Khairy said in a statement here today that the socio-economic conditions of both northern Malaysia and southern Thailand were intertwined and as such development in the area would be in the interest of both countries.
He said the joint efforts were important to ensure that bilateral relations between the two countries were not limited to inter-governmental understanding but were extended to include more interaction between the younger leaders, thus leading to concrete initiatives.
The delegation, which is in Bangkok for the Asean 100 Leadership Forum 2009, also participated in a dialogue session with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Asean Integration and Thailand's Path to Economic Dynamism and Social Stability. — Bernama
