Home Ministry meets three KPI targets two months early

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 13 – The Home Ministry has met three of four of its Key Performance Index (KPI) targets two months in advance, said its minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Among the KPI targets achieved were on the pending applications for citizenship, entry permits and delayed registration of births.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting today, Hishammuddin said the number of pending applications for citizenship resolved was 32,927, 16,812 for entry permits and 93,360 birth certificates.

“This means that out of the four KPIs, three have been met as of today and the other concerns the proposed amendments to the Internal Security Act,” he said. He also said that the ministry would focus on the National Key Result Area (NKRA) of reducing crime rates in the country, especially that of street crimes.

Hishammuddin said combating crime was not only the police’s responsibility, but also involved the Attorney-General’s Office, courts, prisons and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

On the ministry’s target after the achieving the KPIs, he said he would intensify efforts to ascertain the status of foreign nationals in the country.

“This will involve everybody at all levels, from the issuing of tourist visas, student visas to work permits. This is our main agenda, which can be likened to the NKRA and KPI,” he added. – Bernama
