KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — PKR vice-president Azmin Ali today dismissed the latest complaint over the alleged ownership of shares worth RM2 million filed by a former aide of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim..
Anuar Shaari, who was an aide to Anwar when he was the finance minister, lodged a police report today, days after a Barisan Nasional politician claimed Azmin held shares worth nearly RM9 million.
“The first time I was investigated by ACA was in 1995 and police 11 years ago, and now they want to come back with the same script, I leave this to the public,” Azmin told reporters when met in Parliament.
“Earlier they claimed it was RM8 million now dropped to RM2 million, in 1998 I was alleged to have RM400 million,” he said.
Azmin added that he was investigated for eight days by the police in 1998 over acquisition of his wealth.
“I was detained for eight days, I have produced all the evidence to the authorities,” he said.
“I have given my cooperation to the police when I was detained for eight days and within this period I was subjected to thorough investigation,” said Azmin.
Azmin had last week denied accusations that he and his wife had acquired RM8.5 million in shares when he was a senior aide in Anwar’s office.
The allegation was made by former MIC Youth leader, SA Vigneswaran.
Azmin said that a letter of demand will be sent to Vigneswaran tomorrow for making the allegation.
When asked whether similar action will be taken against Anuar, Azmin said: “Who is Anuar Shari? He is a political beggar.”
