KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 – PKR leader Tian Chua (pic) claimed today he has evidence that a former minister and a spouse of a current Cabinet member had made illegal overseas cash transactions.
The first case had allegedly occurred between June and August 2008, when a “Tan Sri” who is a former minister transferred 3.5 million pounds sterling (RM22.2 million) to the United Kingdom.
The second was in March 2008, involving a wife of a senior minister, he claimed today in Parliament.
She had allegedly transferred funds amounting to RM600,000 to Dubai, claimed Chua, who is MP for Batu and also his party’s strategic director.
Chua, however, did not disclose their names or provide evidence to support his claims but said that he would do so should Bank Negara fail to investigate his allegations.
This is the second such allegation made by Chua in just under a month.
Recently, the Batu MP revealed that Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan was under Bank Negara probe for transferring RM10 million to London via a money changer.
Chua also said his sources in Bank Negara revealed that there had been 114 cases of illegal fund transfers that took place between 2006 and this year.
And Chua said of all these cases, only one was followed up with action taken by Bank Negara while the rest remained “unsolved.”
This will create negative perception towards the integrity of the country’s financial system, said Chua, who is demanding that Bank Negara be transparent in dealing with the discrepancies.
The Batu MP said he had written numerous times to the central bank seeking details on the cases but had not received any reply.
It is unclear whether the central bank is obliged to provide information on its investigation upon request.

Mind you, all these shipments and transactions, of which there have been hundreds of billions the past 30 years, are all our hard earned monies and the country's natural wealth. Is Bank Negara also joining to be the 15th component party of the BN? Investigate before the image is tarnished and caused economic hardship to the country. It looks like Tian Chua is really biting back. Just imagine 114 cases of siphoning out the countries assets. The amount could be more that what the Bangladeshis and Indonesians are sending to their homeland.

I agree with lwb. There is too much political gamesmanship. If got proof, just release it instead of trying to time everything for maximum political mileage. Or worse, is the idea to allow Anwar some time to broker deals with BN?
What I would like to see is a pledge from someone trustworthy to watch the buggers... I don't mean for 1 or 2 years... I mean for 30 years. E.g., Hee Yit Foong. Everyone claims she got paid off to switch camps, figures as large as RM10mil have been mentioned. That may be so, but "duit kopi" is only useful if you actually buy some kopi with it... maybe not today... maybe not tomorrow... but within 10 years time merely knowing the money is there will not be enough, it will have to be spent, and very few people have the financial means to move that kind of money around without anyone noticing (basically you have to be already filthy rich in order for RM1mil to not register on the radar). So when the time comes and she decides to buy a house in Perth, she can be caught in the act. I will happily donate a significant amount of money for such a cause, to finance private investigators and whatnot over an extended period of time. The important thing is, must follow through, and the end goal must be to uncover the TRUTH, not to score political points.
That is the kind of effort we need to combat graft in this country. Not the political grandstanding that Anwar and co are good at. Sometimes I wonder if Malaysia has actually improved since 308... very often it seems like the whole country has gone mad with politics... it's actually not a healthy mindset.

It is terrible and I feel cheated.I diligently pay all my taxes
and if this is where all the money is going makes me feel @#%$.
We still elect these leaders to lead us.
I am wondering what is going to happen when more and more people like me feel cheated.
The people must be informed.But there are large segments of the population feels that all these reports are just --political stunts by the opposition.
Can some one come out with a constructive idea as to how to pass this information to the masses.

The reason why the MB of NS is been investigated for money laundering and others kept quiet after being exposed by Tian Chua is very simple. Now pressure is being applied to the MB to resign to make way for Isa mah otherwise how to make Isa the MB leh. I see some of us sitting on the fence and passing crude disrespectful remarks at those who stick their necks out to expose the arrogance and greed of BN leaders. We should support those who are not scared of going to jail doing their duty to the people who elected them. They are the true champions of the People, not the arm chair critics who I consider are just cowards.
I am annoyed at those who challenge Tian Chia to just expose all names. These people are so foolish that they cant understand what Tian Chia is trying to do. He has already exposed so much gradually and giving the authorities time to respond, and if they dont then he will expose more.
Please be patient, all the BIG names will come out in due course. He has got plans, but he has to move carefully lest he end up in a coffin or just go missing and then everything will come to a dead end. Remember what is happening to OTK for exposing corruption?? Please thank him for his courage if you dont want corruption to bury the country.
