Taiping councillor's home shot at

IPOH, Jan 8 – Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) member Teoh Ah Ba, 57, never thought the two gunshots he heard early today outside his home in Taman Kota West, Taiping, about 100km from here, were directed at him.

Teoh, who has been MPT councillor for two terms, was awoken from sleep about 2.30am by explosive sounds and did not suspect anything when seeing a car, believed to be a Perodua Kancil, speeding off from in front of his residence.

When contacted by reporters, he said at 9am he attended a meeting at the MPT building and only knew of the gunshots when informed by one of children at 11am and he saw the shattered glass windows.

He said he immediately lodged a police report after finding a spent shell outside his house and another wedged in a window frame.

However, Teoh was grateful that his wife and two children were not injured in the incident.

Taiping police chief ACP Yusuf Mohd Diah said police found at the scene, two shells and two bullets which were from a Walther semi-automatic pistol.

The motive of the incident is being investigated. – Bernama
