Journalist stumbles on police 'source' killed in road crash

SEREMBAN, Feb 5 —  When a TV3 broadcast journalist received word that a senior police officer with the title "datuk", was killed in a road accident last night, he knew right away the story would make headlines.

Shamsul Liani Abas was told that the victim perished in the crash at Bukit Tagar in Selangor.

As was the norm, Shamsul Liani, who is also a photographer, decided to contact his good friend and "source" at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, to obtain more information on the crash.

He sent a text message to Senior Assistant Commissioner II Datuk Mohd Hazam Abd Halim, the principal assistant director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department.

Minutes later, Shamsul Liani, 45, arrived in Bukit Tagar and began recording the scene of the accident on his camera which also caught the victim's face.

Nothing could have prepared the seasoned journalist for what was in store for him. The dead officer was none other than Mohd Hazam!

The 50-year-old senior police officer was killed when the Proton Perdana car driven by his driver,  Lance Corporal Asminton Salimin, skidded and rammed into the rear of a stationary trailer lorry. – Bernama
