Murray stuns Nadal to reach final

NEW YORK, Sept 8 — No one ever seems to run Rafael Nadal ragged, and yet Andy Murray did just that in the US Open semifinals.

Murray finished a stunning, rain-interrupted 6-2, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 victory yesterday at Flushing Meadows to reach his first Grand Slam final and stop the No. 1-ranked Nadal’s 19-match winning streak at major tournaments.

French football has the blues after 3-1 loss

PARIS, Sept 8 — The pressure is building on France coach Raymond Domenech after a humiliating 3-1 loss to Austria gave Les Bleus a dismal start in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

France has nine remaining qualifying games in Group 7, which includes Romania, Lithuania and Faeroe Islands.

“We will have to be ready, with will and determination,” Domenech said. “We will have to fight until the end.”
