Owen to fly Magpies coop in ‘a matter of weeks’

LONDON, June 22 — Former European Footballer of the Year Michael Owen said today he would leave relegated Newcastle United within weeks.

“I’m still a Newcastle United player but only for a matter of weeks,” Owen told Sky Sports.

“It remains to be seen where I am going to go. There are plenty of clubs that would interest me,” the former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker added.

“There has been a lot of interest from abroad and quite a bit from home as well, but obviously the Premier League is where I feel I belong.”

Owen moved to Newcastle from Madrid in 2005 but has suffered a series of injuries and the club were relegated from the Premier League last season. — Reuters
