Hasan Ali stands by decision not to appeal sacking

February 04, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 – Datuk Hasan Ali reaffirmed his decision today not to appeal his sacking from PAS, adding he would not return to the Islamic party as long as it is controlled by “parasites”.

The former Selangor executive councillor (picture), who was axed from PAS and then the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state government early in January, told a press conference that he made his decision after consulting religious scholars and professionals from within and outside the party.

“As long as there are parasites in PAS, I will not return to the party. The party has lost its direction and Islamic character which was the reason why I joined PAS 15 years ago,” he told a press conference at his home.

The Gombak Setia assemblyman said that he had faced difficulties in championing Islam, Malays and the monarchy in Selangor after PAS preferred to listen to PKR and DAP rather than its own members.

“I am firm in not appealing my sacking. In fact, I protest against the arbitrary and autocratic manner in which PAS sacked me.

“I have never conspired with DAP and PKR, I have never tried to make PAS deviate from its path and I have never blindly supported the desire to take over Putrajaya,” he added.

Hasan had said last week he would start a new non-governmental organisation called “Jati” to continue defending Islam, Malay rights and the Malay Rulers, describing it as a “third force” to help determine who should form the next government.

The former Selangor PAS chief was expelled from the party last month for having persistently undermined PAS’s leadership.

He has also repeatedly accused the party of deviating from its Islamic cause.

But several Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) state leaders said yesterday they want Hasan to replace current president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who announced on Thursday plans to  dissolve the party.
