KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — Kuala Lumpur police will not record statements from Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament Karpal Singh again over his remarks in questioning the prerogative of the Perak Sultan in the transfer of the Perak Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Jamry Sury. Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said they would instead refer to the statements recorded from Karpal by the Penang police on Saturday. "The statements given by Karpal at his office at Jalan Green Hall, Penang are adequate for the police to complete investigations into his case. We will not call him again," he told reporters yesterday. He said investigations were in progress on the 11 reports lodged in several states against the DAP chairman, which included one by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor at the Sentul police station on Thursday. Abdul Samah said the action to be taken against Karpal would be known after the report on the investigations had been sent to the Attorney-General's office soon. "The investigation is almost completed," he added. On Saturday, the Penang police spent almost two hours recording Karpal's statements following two reports lodged against him, one on April 25 over his remarks on a speech by the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan and the other on May 5 for questioning the prerogative of the Perak Sultan in ordering the reinstatement of Jamry as the state religious affairs department director. — Bernama |
